Commenting on the punishment meted out to three Pakistani cricketers by the British court, Dr Raheeq Ahmad Abbasi, Secretary General of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, has termed it as a ‘black chapter’ in the history of Pakistan’s cricket. He said that the erring players rightfully deserved these punishments, for their actions brought the country into disrepute and humiliated the millions of cricket fans. He said that the conduct of the cricketers was reflective of the collective behavior of the ruling elite. He said that the institutions of the government were not performing due to all pervasive corruption. He said that the people of Pakistan were waiting that the apex court should hand down a historic judgment against the corrupt elements to purge the government departments of scourge of corruption.

He said that corruption has permeated the body politic of the country and rendered our foundations hollow. The corruption in the cricketing arena has exposed the country to criticism at the global level, which is a matter of national shame. He said that the present electoral system is the protector of culture of corruption and interests of the powerful elite. The wellbeing of people cannot be ensured without changing the system, he added.
