Speakers at PAT Seminar call for sustained fight against terror corruption
The participants at a seminar titled “The Quaid-i-Azam’s Pakistan” unanimously approved a resolution for award of capital punishment to those found guilty in corruption. MPA Mussarat Jamshed Cheema was lauded for tabling a resolution calling for death sentence for the convicted on corruption charges at the forum of Punjab Assembly. The participants also expressed their support for the families of the martyrs of Model Town tragedy and demanded that those involved in this tragedy should be meted out exemplary punishments under the law.
PAT Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, renowned columnist Qayyum Nizami, former provincial minister Mian Imran Masood, MPA Mussarat Jamshed Cheema, Arif Chaudhry, Ch. Afzal Gujjar and others also addressed the seminar. A cake marking the 142nd birthday of the Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was cut on the occasion. Brig. (r ) Iqbal, GM Malik, Noorullah Saddiqi, Sohail Raza and Mazhar Aliv were also present in the seminar.
Addressing the participants, Khurram Nawaz Gandpaur said that the Quaid-i-Azam’s Pakistan was destroyed by a combination of lust for power, corruption and misgoverannce. He said that crime committed by Nawaz Sharif is huge but the punishment meted out to him is less. Therefore NAB is duty bound to appeal for revision of the sentence.
Qayyum Nizami said on the occasion that the founding father of Pakistan was an expert of law and a true democrat, whereas today’s politicians know how to loot the country. He congratulated the PAT on organizing a ceremony to celebrate the birth anniversary of the Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He said that the Quaid wanted such an inclusive political and economic system as could provide justice to all.
Former Minister Education Mian Imran Masood said that those who perpetrated Model Town tragedy on June 17, 2014 do not deserve any mercy. He said that the role of judiciary and the accountability institutions in eliminating corruption is praiseworthy. He said that the Quaid-i-Azam, who was dead honest, made Pakistan whereas the corrupt elements harmed it. He said that we would become a nation only when we conduct self-accountability. He said that it is proven beyond doubt that honest is a great virtue.
MPA Mrs. Mussarat Jamshed Cheema stated that if Nawaz Sharif had done business, it would not have mattered at all. She said that what he engaged in were illegal activities of loot and plunder. He laundered money abroad and bought expensive properties with this money. She asked as to with what face these people stake a claim to power. She said that the PTI government will continue to support efforts for accountability and no corrupt person will be spared. She said that the law applies equally to all, stating that the sentences being awarded to the corrupt people are the first drop of rain.
Arif Chaudhry said that the progress of Pakistan lies in acting upon the wise sayings of the Quaid-i-Azam. Afzal Gujjar said that those who martyred innocent people in Model Town will meet their horrible end. He said that the Pakistan’s founding father made this country for the protection of the common people but the political elite used the state resources to make themselves dirty rich.
The resolution to declare the corrupt as deserving of capital punishment was moved by PAT Secretary Information Noorullah Saddiqi.
