According to the preliminary results received on Thursday, the Awami Group
supported by the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) has claimed to have won 256
seats of Nazims, 4460 deputy Nazims and 239 lady councillors in the second
phase of the local body polls held in 20 districts in the country the
other day.
Syed Abid Gilani, PAT's central media advisor told reporters at his office here that results were still being received from different parts of the country . He pointed out that Awami group like the first phase has knocked out traditional political groups to leave the election. He also claimed that as many as 36 councillors belonging to different minority groups also contested elections under the banner of Awami group and won Details of these candidates would be made public once final election results were received, he added He said a number of prominent political figures in the various part of the country who had joined the PAT and contested election under the banner of Awami group and emerged victorious. In the first phase of local body polls Awami group had 166 panels and 2715 councillors seats. .Meanwhile, Chairman of Pakistan Awami Tehreek , Dr. Tahirul Qadri has congratulated the successful candidates who contested under the Awami group, saying the downtrodden have voted the PAT and rejected the traditional political gurus, He expressed that hope that people of Pakistan would also vote to the PAT candidate in the next general elections in the same manner.

March 23: Awami Group, enjoying the support of Pakistan Awami Tehrik
(PAT), has swept the second phase of local bodies elections as 486 Nazims
and Naib-Nazims and over 4700 councillors , including around 250 ladies,
have so far emerged victorious. This was claimed by Central Media Advisor PAT Syed Abid Gilani while talking to a group of newsmen here on Thursday. He said PAT had achieved a landslide victory in the second phase of polls like it did in the first phase. He maintained that 166 panels and 2715 councillors of Awami Tehrik had achieved success in the first phase of the elections. He said Chairman PAT Professor Tahirul Qadri had undertaken whirl-wind visits to all districts to ensure Awami Group's success through a mass-contact campaign. Meanwhile, the PAT chairman, while congratulating the party workers and those who had emerged victorious on Awami Group's ticket, said the masses had declared a war on the oppressive system by electing the PAT-nominated candidates. -PPI |
