Journalism essential for the protection of human rights: Khurram Nawaz Gandapur
On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, Secretary-General of Pakistan Awami Tehreek, stated in his statement that journalists have made sacrifices throughout history for the protection of human rights. Whether in the West or the East, in poor or rich countries, it is never easy for journalists to fulfill their professional duties, but despite this, they risk their lives to become the voice of the oppressed and weaker sections of society. He further emphasized that journalists uphold their responsibilities for the supremacy of the constitution and law.
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said that the role of the media is not limited to news dissemination, but their role in raising awareness is also significant. He said that the media plays an important role in the formation of a strong, just, and law-abiding society. No society can progress without the supremacy of the constitution and law. The rule of law is closely tied to the provision of justice and freedom of expression.
The PAT Secretary General said that the media should educate the public about their constitutional rights and responsibilities, so a conscious and law-abiding society can be formed. In his statement, he paid tribute to journalists and acknowledged that the field of journalism plays a crucial role in safeguarding freedom of expression and basic human rights. Journalists have always paid a heavy price for truth-telling. He said that there is no doubt that the field of journalism is engaged in protecting national security, promoting genuine democracy, highlighting systemic flaws, and fighting for the supremacy of law.
