Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) writes to WTO about Dr Tauqir Shah's role in Model Town Lahore massacre. Dr Tauqir Shah has been appointed as ambassador of Pakistan to the World Trade Organization. We write to apprise you of his unsuitability and unfortunate background of his appointment to WTO. On the 17th of June 2014 the government sent the police to carry out an armed operation at the head office of Minhaj-ul-Quran International (MQI) and the residence of Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri in Lahore, which continued for approximately fifteen hours. read more...

Forest Gate’s war on extremism sees mosque open doors to police

Minhaj-ul-Quran Mosque in Forest Gate has opened its doors to law enforcement officers to fight extremism. Organisers hope the open-door policy, which will see police meet the congregation at quarterly events to hear concerns, will spread to other mosques. Community liaison officer Adnan Sohail, says extremism is not an issue at Minhaj-ul-Quran – a global group renowned for its anti-terror work – but said he feels it is important to take preventative action. read more...

PAT to relaunch protest campaign on 17th

LAHORE: In a bid to seek justice in the Model Town case, the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) is going to re-launch its protest campaign against the PML-N government. A decision taken a couple of days ago was announced here on Tuesday. The first rally in this respect will be held in Lahore on Jan 17 where schedule for the next phase will be announced. Interestingly, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), a partner of the PAT in the Islamabad sit-it, is also going to announce on Jan 18 the next phase of its protest to seek a fair probe into alleged rigging in the 2013 general elections. read more...

Elimination of terrorism not possible until foreign funding stops: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri

PAT chief Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has made it clear that unless foreign funding is banned, it will not be possible to eliminate terrorism. He said that foreign funding to seminaries reflects criminal negligence of successive governments that failed to discharge their responsibility for reasons of expediency and narrow interests. He said that all governments of past are equally responsible for mushroom growth of extremism and radicalism in the country. read more...

PAT to resume protest on Jan 17

LAHORE: The Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) on Tuesday announced to resume its country-wide protest on January 17 for not being given justice pertaining to the Model Town case. First demonstration would be staged in Lahore whereas a signature campaign against the appointment of Tauqeer Shah as ambassador World Trade Organization (WTO) will also be initiated. read more...

Government deceiving people on issue of terrorism: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri

PAT chief Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that the government is deceiving people on the issue of terrorism. He said that funds have continued to be received from abroad in the name of elimination of terrorism and the past governments were also involved in this practice. He said that the French President and the whole cabinet led a rally of four million people against terrorism, asking when the honour of Pakistan’s Prime Minister will wake. Peace moot endorses operation against militants: Dr Raheeq Abbasi

PAT central president Dr Raheeq Abbasi said that concept of ‘Jihad’ had been wrongly interpreted and the misguided elements were following a mindset, which had weakened the roots of the country, besides bringing a bad name to Islam and Pakistan. He said that fighting the war against terrorism was two-front struggle, adding that one front belongs to the Pakistan Army that had been fulfilling its responsibility with utmost dedication, while the second front belongs to religious scholars and they have to play an important role in defeating the mindset of extremism and radicalism by portraying the true picture of Islam. read more...

Taxi schemes won't end unemployment: PAT

LAHORE (Daily Dunya) – Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) central president Dr Raheeq Abbasi on Friday said that the taxi schemes won’t end the prevailing unemployment in Punjab. He said the unemployment will be curbed by strengthening the agriculture and industrial sectors. Abbasi said Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif should resume hiring on vacated seats in the government sectors if he is serious in curbing the unemployment. read more...

‘PAT suspended, not ended sit-in’

Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) did not end its sit-in at Islamabad but rather it temporarily suspended it, a spokesman for Dr Tahirul Qadri said in a press release on Friday. The spokesman accused federal and Punjab governments for harassing the PAT leadership, including Dr Qadri by forcing police to register false FIR against Qadri and other leaders. He said the PAT would welcome if the Model Town incident case was forwarded to military courts. read more...
